An Introduction to Floor Vases

Floor Vase CirclesWhen it comes time to choose decorative accents for a home, business or other interior design project, there are many options available that help accentuate décor, hide structural or other imperfections, fill blank spaces or help keep the visual flow of a space moving. Some of the most important and functional accessories at your disposal are well-placed and visually dynamic vases.

Floor vases can be used to hold live or silk flowers, tall grasses, bamboo or even more unusual items like peacock feathers or umbrellas. They draw the eye to their location due to their size, shape and can even stand alone (or in groups) as unique pieces of art. Floor vases are versatile, easy to arrange and rearrange, and come in various colors, styles, texture and shapes. They can be grouped together as an artistic statement, placed in corners or under tall tables, positioned on shelves or other surfaces with plenty of open space and can be interesting conversation pieces for visitors, clients and customers.

Vases have been discovered in ancient cultures around the world. The ancient Egyptians used pottery and vases in their daily lives as vessels for water, wine and other liquids or oils and grains. Vases were even used vases to contain the vital organs of mummies. The vases used were decorated with illustrations and hieroglyphs, honoring their gods, goddesses and pharaohs as well as showing important moments in history.  In ancient Greece, vases were used in daily life, as well, as vessels for liquids, cosmetics, storage and even as grave markers. Vases often depicted stories of that time, including mythological figures or historical events.  Asian cultures including Chinese, Korean and Japanese each had their own special techniques for creating or decorating vases. In Buddhism, the vase was not only used in rituals, but it was also a symbol of abundance.

Today, you can see floor vases representative of these and other cultures, as well as modern evolutions of these artistic and functional accent pieces. Floor vases are becoming important decorating accessories and can be found in offices, lobbies and waiting rooms as well as placed within homes. Many restaurants have incorporated floor vases into their dining areas, or even outside on their patios. Cruise ships, casinos and even upscale grocery stores are using floor vases to fill up large spaces with interesting and unique designs.
